Someone call me little girl again?

Nightmare #1

The fire spread all over the place, bright claws of fire raking over the pitch, a heavy blackness hanging in the air. She felt like choking, the man standing in front of her laughing insanely. Down her arms and across her chest were long, shallow cuts, but she’d been petrified, she couldn’t move. The flames moved closer, swallowing up everything she could see, destroying the place she’d always found freedom. The mans laughter turned to screams as the flames caught him, but Katie couldn’t close her eyes and block it out. She was forced to watch as his skin blistered and he died from the fire he’d set. She knew she was next. She knew that the fire was going to do the same thing to her. Her parents wouldn’t be able to recognise her body. She’d promise her daddy she’d come home, and now she’d never see him again. Before the fire got to her, the smoke clouded everything, and…

Katie woke up with a start, coughing from the memories. She still had no idea how she’d gotten out of there. But just as she’d thought she’d die, she’d blacked out. Then hours later, after the war had ended, she’d woken up, safe on the lawn, well away from any fires.

Katie laughed at that. “We’re not. I can make a team easily. It’s just hard to get permission to actually play games. It’s not exactly a friendly sport, and they already have the Agonies for their sport.” ((ooc: Duncan would know about the Agonies, and I’ll explain them later.)) She stretched a little in her seat before looking back at Duncan. “I’ve been begging the Beetle to let us play properly, but she keeps saying no. So I’m gonna try a teacher.”

Duncan nodded. “Teacher would be better. They will probably let you… We could try Lupin.” He offered as the drinks were brought over. Duncan took a sip of his before looking around again. “Is it just me or does it seem like the stuff multiplies when I look away?”

Katie nodded. “Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. He’s a lot more relaxed. Or Mr Weasley. He’s pretty cool.” She knew the Weasleys pretty well, so she figured he might say yes. Especially as he’d know his children would wanna play. At his question, she snorted. “It’s not out of the question. People practice all the time around here.” She nodded to another table, where a freshman was waving a wand under the table. “As long as Elaine and Ben don’t see it, it’s fine.”

Katie nodded. “The pasta is good.” She waved at Ben, and he walked over. “Mud cake for you?” He laughed and she nodded. “Yep, and pasta for my friend. Uh… I’ll have my tea… Want something to drink Duncan?” She looked over at him as she asked.

“Just some coca-cola please.” Duncan smiled as he put his elbow on the table, resting on his fist. “So, about Quidditch. There has to be some way we can come up with a team. We can’t be the only people to remember it.”

Katie laughed at that. “We’re not. I can make a team easily. It’s just hard to get permission to actually play games. It’s not exactly a friendly sport, and they already have the Agonies for their sport.” ((ooc: Duncan would know about the Agonies, and I’ll explain them later.)) Katie shrugged. “Depends on how hungry you are. I’m getting the mud cake.” It was one of her favourites, so she’d treat herself. “Everything here tastes good though.” She loved it here, despite the appearances. But it summed up Elaine pretty well, so she’d gotten used to it.

Duncan finally opened the menu, spotting a pasta dish. “Pasta. Perfect. Then more practice later.” He laughed a bit before putting the menu down and looking around again. “So, any other need to know places around here?”

Katie grabbed the menus and handed him one. “It looks insane, I know. But it’s good.” She smiled and looked around. “Yeah, I guess I do. But I also grew up knowing Ben, and Elaine. She’s the owner.” She pointed towards a blonde hippie and the teen boy next to her. “And that’s her son. He’s a muggle, but he’s nice.”

Duncan nodded a bit and waved back. “Oh, ok. What do you recommend?” He smiled a bit, still distracted by the interior to even open the menu he had taken from her hand. It was all pretty neat when you looked at it, but it was like something vomited everything into the room.

Katie laughed as he jumped. “Yeah, Dad works with them. And they know I wouldn’t skip class, so it’s fine.” She crossed the street and walked into Misery’s. The cafe was decked out in New Age kinda stuff, and Katie always thought it was the perfect place for students to hang. If strange things happened here, they were ignored, since Elaine believed in magic. Of course, all her beliefs were wrong, but it meant that students could get away with small displays of magic here. She led Duncan over to a table and sat down, waving over at Ben.

Duncan sat at the table, grinning wide. “Ok, so it looks… Interesting.” He looked around in wonder. Had he really never been here before? “So, you come often I guess?” It seemed like she knew plenty of people around here.

Katie nodded. “Can be a bit confusing. I’m a halfblood. Mum’s a witch, and Dad’s a muggle.” As soon as he mentioned peaceful, a police car drove past and turned it’s sirens on for a few seconds. She waved to it, recognising it as one of the guys that worked with Dad. “It’s usually pretty quiet, yeah. And Misery’s is just over there.” She nodded towards a place just up the road.

Duncan nodded and smiled. “Oh, ok. Not to much farther. Someone you knew?” He motioned to the car that passed, almost jumping out of his skin as it bleeped it’s sirens at them. “Will you get in trouble for not being in school?”

Katie laughed as he jumped. “Yeah, Dad works with them. And they know I wouldn’t skip class, so it’s fine.” She crossed the street and walked into Misery’s. Katie smiled. “Hopefully you get to see him.” She couldn’t imagine not getting along with her dad. “Is he a wizard?” She smiled more at his question. “Yep. I’ve always lived in the same house. If I wasn’t at Hogwarts, I was here.” And she liked it that way. Hogwarts was home as well to her, but Cambridge was always going to be her favourite place.

Duncan nodded. “Both parents are. Though Mom is muggle born. So I that’s kind of confusing.” He looked around, noticing how nice the town actually was. “It seems so peaceful around here. Is it always like this? And how far is Misery’s?”

About

Katie, as she insists on being called, is not a girly girl at all. She loves Quidditch and is extremely sporty, always moving around. She’ll likely be found fidgetting or something, never still. So, try mess with her, and she will kick your arse. Even after the war left her with nightmares, she is just as tough and stubborn as always. Something about her had ‘I will kill you just as soon as I turn my head’ written all over her, including her posture. She is a complete Daddys girl though, her Daddy being the only man in her life, the one who taught her to protect herself.
